Listed in Wallonia's major heritage register, the Castle of Beloeil has been the residence of the Princes of Ligne since the 14th century. A rich collection of works of art from the 15th to the 19th century is displayed in its numerous rooms. The paintings depict the Ligne family and their exploits. The furniture was made by the finest French cabinetmakers from the 16th and 17th centuries. The library is 18m long and 6m high and contains some 20,000 books!
The gardens at the centre of a 25 ha park are listed as "exceptional gardens of Wallonia" and are among the most beautiful French formal gardens in Europe. They were designed and laid out by ten successive generations and are meticulously maintained in keeping with the original design from 1664. It is possible to take a ride on a little train.
